Spiritual Experinces : Seeing Dazzling Lights in Meditation

QUESTION  :Why do we see lights in meditation ?
I saw a light in meditation , and then I went through it .
Is it all right to meditate this way ?

Answer : Various kinds of lights manifest during meditation owing to concentration. For those who concentrate on the Trikuti, the space between the two eyebrows, the light appears on the forehead in the Trikuti or the third eye center , while for others who concentrate on the top of the head, Sahasrara Chakra, the light manifests on the top of the head. The light is so powerful and dazzling sometimes, that you have to withdraw yourself from looking at it and break the meditation. Some people are afraid and do not know what to do and how to proceed further.

In the beginning, these lights are not steady. They come and disappear immediately. They flash out from above the forehead and from the sides. They cause peculiar sensations of extreme joy and happiness and there is an intense desire for a vision of these lights.

When you have a steady and systematic practice of meditation , these lights appear more frequently and remain steadily for a long time. The vision of the lights is a great encouragement in the path of  Sadhana. It impels you to stick steadily to meditation. It gives you strong faith also in superphysical matters.

The appearance of the light denotes that you are transcending the physical consciousness. You are in a semi-conscious state when the light appears. You are between two planes. You must not shake the body when these lights manifest. You must be perfectly steady in the Asana. You must breathe very, very slowly.

In spiritual progress, the light is a good sign of progress.

QUESTION  : During meditation ,I see different flashes of colors in third eye center . What is it and what should I do ?

ANSWER : When one is meditating , prana becomes one with apana. When you get a machine going there is a lot of activity. Similarly, when parna and apana unite, there is a lot of action and reaction with the five basic elements, earth, air, fire, water, and space . These mixed with your own sanskara and create the experiences of flashes  of different colors . The colors you see in meditation depend on which element are acting most on you. Earth is yellow, water is white, fire is red, air is green and space is blue-black .

Also seeing colors during meditation is a common, healing experience. According to  Eastern healing systems, each color relates to a specific chakra or energy center in the body, so when you see a given color, it means that healing is taking place in that area of the body. If you see green colors, for example, your heart chakra is being rejuvenated and renewed. Visions of blue indicate that the throat chakra area is healing itself.

QUESTION  :Sometimes when I am asleep I am awakened by a large, strong light in front of me. It makes me shake . The dazzling light brighter than the sun come and fade away quickly .

ANSWER : Generally the light is your own and  is not  from outside. This is the light of your soul and it is not separated from you. There are nine kinds of light of the soul. They are like fog, like smoke, like the sun, like the moon, like fire, like water , like electricity, like fireflies and like crystals. Different people experience a different kind of lights . Light is a sign of your spiritual progress .In the transitional stage, half-asleep, half-awake, you will get again these lights by themselves without any conscious attempt .

Sometimes you may see a light that need not be connected with you at all. During sleep or meditation, your inner being may contact someone else's inner being, and the light you see is not your own, but his.

Sometimes the Guru appears as dazzling light to bless and help the seeker in his spiritual path .

Sometimes the dazzling  lustrous forms are higher Deities,Ishta Devata  angels ,entities  of mental or higher planes who come down to give you Darshan and encourage you. Various Saktis or energies manifest in lustrous forms. That invisible power assists in your separating from the body and going above body-consciousness.

QUESTION : Sometimes I see spiral lights in third eye chakra moving in clockwise or anticlockwise directions .

ANSWER : The third eye or Ajna chakra is a gateway that leads to inner realms and other  worlds ; a personal vortex. The Third eye is associated with psychic experiences, divine seeing, and the higher visionary realm. When you begin to see vivid pictures or colors during your meditation, this is a sign that your third eye is developing.Seeing light vortex or spirals moving in clockwise and anticlockwise directions indicates that third eye chakra is activating . When a chakra is functioning noramally, it will be open spining clockwise to metabolize the particular energy needed from the universe. A clockwise spinning spiral  light may indicate that the chakra is drawing energy from the universe . And similarly an anticlockwise spiral light perceived at Ajna may indicate that the energy is flowing outside from the  body and the chakra is closed or  blocked  to incoming cosmic energies.

QUESTION : I have been meditating for several years ,  but I have never had the mystical experience of lights .

ANSWER : The inner light  may appear in some persons within a few days, while in others within six or nine months. It depends on upon the state of the mind and degree of concentration. Some persons may not have such experiences, but they will be progressing on the spiritual path. Not everyone has experience of light. Those that do,have need of them. Those that do not ,have no such need.

QUESTION : I had a dazzling  light experience two years ago . It was fantastic .Nothing has been as good . Is that the only time it will happen ?

ANSWER :  If you follow proper sadhana you will get experiences or visions continually . But do not waste your time in looking at these visions. This is only a curiosity. These are all encouragements to convince you of the existence of superphysical, metaphysical realities .

Don’t get too focused on the colors or lights . It can become a distraction and derail your meditation practice if you spend too much time focusing on the lights and their colors. It’s best to let the light and colors come and let them go.The meditator should remain focused on the meditation itself without distracting from the lights.
