प्राणायाम : हमारे फेफड़े

फेफड़े श्वास प्रणाली और रक्त संचार प्रणाली के प्रमुख अंग  हैं । शरीर को जिन वस्तुओं की आवश्यकता है उनका 4/5 भाग वायु द्वारा प्राप्त होता है , इसलिए हर व्यक्ति  को सदैव स्वास्थप्रद वायु लेने के लिए प्रत्यनशील रहना चाहिए ।

शरीर में फेफड़े दो जुड़वाँ भाइयों के जैसे छाती की पसली में भीतर स्थित होते हैं । दोनों फेफड़ों का औसत वजन 1. 3 किलोग्राम होता है । इसमें बड़ा भाई दायीं ओर और छोटा भाई बायीं  ओर स्थित होता हैं । बायाँ फेफड़ा छोटा होता है और दो खण्डों में विभाजित रहा है जबकि दायाँ फेफड़ा बड़ा होता है और इसके तीन खंड होते हैं । फेफड़ों का मुख्य काम है रक्त शोधन ।

हमारा  ह्रदय दिन रात रक्त पंप करता रहता है । जब ह्रदय द्वारा रक्त फेंका जाता है वह धमनियों और फिर पतली धमनियों में होता हुआ शरीर के हर एक भाग में पहुंचता है और फिर दूसरे रास्ते से पतली शिराओं में होता मोटी शिराओं में आकर ह्रदय में वापस पहुंचता है । आरम्भ में जब यह रक्त शरीर में घूमता है तब स्वच्छ और शुद्ध होता है लेकिन वापसी में शरीर में हर घडी पैदा होने वाले विष पदार्थ इसमें मिल जाते हैं । शहरी गन्दी नालियों की तरह यह काल नीला रक्त ह्रदय  की दाहिनी कोठरी {औरिक्ल } में जमा होता है वहां से उसे एक दूसरी कोठरी {वेंट्रिकल} में होकर शुद्ध होने के लिए बालों से भी बारीक नलियों द्वारा फेफड़ों तक पहुंचा दिया जाता है ।

सांस द्वारा जो शुद्ध हवा फेफड़ों से ली जाती है वह इस विष को अपने साथ लेकर बाहर उड़ जाती है और दूषित रक्त साफ़ होकर पुनः हृदय में भेज दिया जाता है जहां से यह शुद्ध  रक्त फिर से समस्त अंगों में दौड़ने लगता है । फेफड़ों का काम एक ऐसी दूकान जैसा  है जहां शुद्ध और अशुद्ध रक्त की अदला बदली होती रहती है  । रक्त के शुद्ध  रहने का प्रमुख आधार ऑक्सीजन ही है । शुद्ध रक्त का एक चौथाई भाग ऑक्सीजन होता है । ऑक्सीजन युक्त रक्त शरीर के सब भागों और अवयवों में पहुंचता है उनकी सफाई करता है और दूषित तत्वों [कार्बन] को बाहर निकाल देता  है  |

सांस लेते समय ऑक्सीजन,नाइट्रोजन आदि का रासायनिक सम्मिश्रण हमारे भीतर जाता है इसमें से जो आवश्यक है वह शरीर सोख लेता है और भीतर से उत्पन्न कचरे को वापस लौटने वाली सांस में कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड के रूप में बाहर  बहा देता है ।

छाती की कोठरी में दोनों फेफड़े अलग अलग हैं ,लेकिन जहां पसलियों का जुड़ाव है वहां ह्रदय  ,रक्त और स्वर की बड़ी नाड़ियां इन्हें  आपस में जोड़े रहती हैं । फेफड़े और ह्रदय रक्त ले जाने वाली शिराओं और  धमनियों के माद्यम से जुड़े रहते हैं । फेफड़े एक बहुत ही पतली लेकिन मजबूत  झिल्ली के अंदर रहे हैं जिन्हें हेल्युलर सैक कहते हें । जब सांस इन फेफड़ों में भरती है तो ये फैलते हैं  और जब सांस बाहर निकलती है तो ये सुकड़ जाते हैं ।

फेफड़ों के भीतर खाली स्थान होता है जब हम सांस लेते हैं तब यह खाली स्थान भर जात है जब हम सांस छोड़ते हैं तो यह फिर से खाली हो जाते हैं । फेफड़ों की कोई मांसपेशी नहीं होती है ।सांस लेने वाली नली लगभग 10 सेंटीमीटर लम्बी होती है जो फेफड़ों  में आते ही दो भागों में बंट  जाती है । एक भाग दायें फेफड़े में  और दूसरा भाग बायें फेफड़े में जाता है । ये दोनों सांस नलियां फेफड़ों के अंदर  फिर छोटी  छोटी कुपिकाओं { air sacs } में फ़ैल जाती हैं । इसकी आकृति उलटे  पेड़ की तरह या मधुमक्खी के छत्ते की तरह होती हैं । हमारे फेफड़े भी पेड़ की तरह ऑक्सीजन और कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड का लेन देन  करते हैं । 16-18  करोड़ की संख्या में उपस्थित  ये कुपिकाएं अंगूर के गुच्छे की तरह  होती हैं और  निरन्तर  ऑक्सीजन और कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड का लेन देन इन्हीं  सूक्ष्म वायु मार्गों के माध्यम से होता है । इन कुपिकाओं को एयर सेल या alveoli  कहा जाता है । प्रत्येक alveoli   पर अति सूक्ष्म रक्त वाहिनियों का आवरण चढ़ा रहता है ।इन्हीं बारीक सूक्ष्म रक्त वाहिनियों के एक छोर से हृदय  द्वारा नीला दूषित रक्त पंप  किया जाता है और दूसरे छोर से शुद्ध रक्त प्राप्त किया जाता है । कोशिका दीवार  के बारीक जालीदार  झिल्ली के माध्यम से कोशिकाएं कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड को फेफड़ों की कुपिकाओं में बिसारती  है उसी समय दूसरी ओर जाती हुई वहां से ऑक्सीजन को समेटती है ।

हमारा मेरुदण्ड मस्तिष्क के साथ जहां जुड़ता है उस स्थान को medulla oblongata कहते हैं । Medulla oblongata हमारे साँसों की गति को नियंत्रित करता है । हम प्रति मिनट 16-18  सांस लेते हैं और एक सांस में लगभग आधा लीटर वायु फेफड़ों के अंदर भरते हैं  अर्थात एक मिनट में 8 से 9 लीटर  वायु । साँसों की गति हमेशा एक  जैसी नहीं रहती है । जैसे  विश्राम में एक मिनट में 9 लीटर  वायु,  बैठे हुए 18 लीटर , चलते हुए 27 लीटर और दौड़ते हुए 45-50  लीटर वायु ग्रहण करते हैं |

इसलिए जब हम दौड़ते हैं ,सीढ़ियां चढते हैं  या परिश्रम वाला काम करते हैं तो हमारी सांस फूलने लगी है और हम हांफने लगते हैं  । इसका कारण  है अधिक वायु ग्रहण करने के कारण फेफड़ों  में ऑक्सीजन अधिक मात्रा में भर जाती है लेकिन उसके जलने से फेफड़ों में अधिक मात्रा में कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड और लैक्टिक एसिड जमा हो जाता है और दम  फूलने लगता है ।

हम एक साधारण सांस में आधा लीटर  वायु ग्रहण करते हैं  जबकि फेफड़ों की कपैसिटी 10-12  गुणा  अधिक है यानि 5-6 लीटर प्रति सांस । इसे टोटल लंग कैपिसिटी  TLC कहते हैं । अर्थात एक गहरी सांस से फेफड़ों में जितने आयतन की वायु समा पाती है वह हुई फेफड़ों की TLC | सांस के फेफड़ों से निकलने के बाद जितने आयतन की वायु फेफड़ों में पीछे बची रहती है उसे फंक्शनल रेसिडुअल कपैसिटी  FRC  कहते हैं । इसके  अलावा  अधिकतम मात्रा में फेफड़ों से वायु बाहर निकालने के बाद भी पीछे से उसमें कुछ वायु शेष रह जाती है जिसे रेसिडुअल वॉल्यूम या RV  कहते हैं । विश्राम की अवस्था में प्रति सांस जो हम वायु ग्रहण करते हैं उसे टाइडल वॉल्यूम TV  कहते हैं ।

 हर सांस के आरम्भ और अंत में कुछ  न कुछ वायु  फेफड़ों में शेष रह जाती है ,इस मध्य फिर से सांस लेने की इच्छा होती जिससे फेफड़े वायु से भरे रहते हैं । इस अतिरिक्त वायु को inspiratory reserve volume कहते हैं । इसी तह सांस छोड़ते  समय भी जो अतिरिक्त वायु शेष बची रहती है उसे expiratory reserve volume कहते हैं ।

भारी व्यायामों या वर्क आउट, में टाइडल वॉल्यूम बढ़ जाता है  । जब व्यक्ति गहरी सांस लेते है और उसी गति से उसे बाहर निकाल देता है तो उस छोड़ी गए वायु के आयतन को वाइटल कैपिसिटी या VC  कहते हैं । सामान्यतः हम आधे से भी काम वायु प्राप्त करते हैं यह आधे पेट भोजन  या आधी प्यास पानी की तरह शरीर को दुर्बल और रोगी बनाए रखता है । गहरी लम्बी सांस  से फेफड़ों में भरी जाने वाली वायु को वाइटल लंग  कपैसिटी  VLC कहते हैं । पुरुषों के फेफड़े आकार में बड़े होते हैं तो  उनका VLC 4-5  लीटर होता है जबकि महिलाओं का 3-4  लीटर होता है । यदि हमारे फेफड़े स्वस्थ नहीं  हैं तो VLC कम हो जाता है और हमें सांस के रोग जैसे टीबी, खांसी,प्लूरिसी, सांस फूलना, ब्रोंकाइटिस , एलर्जी आदि  या दूसरे रोग घेर लेते हैं  |  प्राणायाम से हम VLC  को बढ़ा सकते हैं |

एक मिनट में अंदर खींची गई सांस की मात्रा को respiratory minute volume कहते हैं । 15 सेकंड में अधिक से अधिक ली गई सांस की मात्रा maximum breathing capacity MBC कहलाती है । एक स्वस्थ युवा पुरष में 125-170 लीटर प्रति मिनट और महिलाओं में 100-120 लीटर प्रति मिनट MBC होती है ।उम्र के साथ MBC घटती चली जाती है ।

प्राणयाम में हम एक मिनट में अपने फेफड़ों में 50  लीटर वायु भरते हैं और साथ  ही साथ फेफड़ों से साँसों का पूरा निष्काशन भी होता है जिससे फेफड़ों में कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड जमा नहीं पाती । हमारे फेफड़ों में लगभग 75 करोड़ कोशिकाएं होती है साधारण सांस से केवल एक तिहाई ही कोशिकाओं का प्रयोग हो पता है जबकि दो तिहाई  कोशिकाएं निष्क्रिय पड़ी रहती है । या कह सकते हैं की साधारण  सांस की अपेक्षा  8 गुणा अधिक वायु सांस द्वारा ली जा सकती है । उथली सांस लेने से फेफड़ों के  दो तिहाई alveoli   निष्क्रिय रहते हैं  यह भाग respiratory dead space कहलाता है । निष्क्रिय कोशिकाएं जल्दी मर जाती हैं और रक्त का शुद्धिकरण भी कम होता है,कोशिकाओं को शुद्ध रक्त न मिलाने के कारण शरीर तेजी से रोगी और बूढ़ा होता चला जाता है ।

प्राणयाम  द्वारा इन निष्क्रिय कोशिकाओं को सक्रिय कर फेफड़ों की कार्य - क्षमता  को बढ़ाया जाता है । प्राणायाम करने से व्यक्ति अपने फेफड़ों के आयतन का अधिकतम भाग उपयोग में लाता है जिसे वाइटल कैपिसिटी कहते हैं । प्राणयाम के अभ्यास से फेफड़ों का  रेसिडुअल वॉल्यूम घटता है और वाइटल कैपिसिटी बढ़ता है ।प्राणायाम से फेफड़ों के 25-30  % अधिक आयतन का उपयोग होता है ।
