Planetary states are the condition in which a planet is placed in a horoscope. Each state produces its own results. In the judgement of a horoscope all these details have to be fully considered.
Infancy
Whenever the longitude of a planet in a particular sign is less than 5 degrees it is said to be in the state of infancy.
Old age
Whenever the longitude of a planet in a particular sign is more than 25 degrees it is treated to be in the state of old age
Own sign
A planet in its own sign like Venus in Taurus/Libra, Moon in Cancer
Exaltation
The planet is in the state of exaltation or extreme strength in a particular signs and gives excellent results. Like Sun in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer, Mars in Capricorn are in the state of exaltation
Debilitation
The planets are in the state of extreme weakness if it occupies a particular sign. Like Moon in Scorpio, Venus in Virgo, Saturn in Aries are in the state of debilitation.
Combustion
The planet are said to be combust when they are within a particular degree on either side of the Sun. Their strength is destroyed by the fiery nature of the Sun. Like Venus is 10 degrees on either side of the Sun is considered to be combust or set.
In friendly signs
When the planet occupies the sign of its friend gives good results.
In inimical sign
When a planet occupy signs of their enemies, they lose their power
Afflicted planets
If the planet is a functional malefic/ associated or aspected by a malefic / in an inauspicious house is considered to be afflicted planets.
Retrograde planets
Due to the different speed of planets in relation to the earth, sometimes due to visionary illusion the planets are seen to be moving backward in their elliptical paths, are said to be retrograded planets.
